It's time to clean your feeders!

It’s not quite up there with cleaning the cat litter box, but I’m not a fan of cleaning birdfeeders either.  Still, I make sure it gets done regularly because it is really important for the health of your birds  Luckily, we only have easy cleaning feeders at our house but even so, if you don’t have the right tools, cleaning can be a frustrating task.  We have the tools to make it a much easier process.

First, you need some kind of brush.  We have brushes with varying length handles for tube or hummingbird feeders.  The flower brush is a new product made from recycled plastic.  The flower brush is really for dishes, but its smaller head is perfect for scrubbing just about any feeder.  It also has a scraper that would be great for hopper and tray feeders.

My absolute favorite, the Nectar Port Brush, is designed to clean the ports on hummingbird feeders  but I use it on every feeder.  It gets into the small areas that other brushes are too big for.  (I use one on all my water bottles).

What to clean with?  We have soy based cleaner that you can use on any feeder.  You can also use any non-toxic all purpose cleaner like dish soap.  If you feel the need to sterilize, use white vinegar.  It is cheap, non-toxic and it works.

If you want to extend the time between cleaning, consider trying Feeder Fresh.  You put it in the feeder with the seed.  It absorbs moisture, thus keeping your seed drier and your feeder cleaner.  We have had great feedback from customers who have tried it.
